Rostock University of Music

The Rostock University of Music and Drama was founded in 1994, and is the newest university in Germany. Its precursors, however, had a long and very successful tradition behind it.

Today, some 450 students from all over the world enjoy the unique flair of the new site, opened in 2002: the beautifully restored St. Catherine´s Monastery on the east side of Rostock Old Town. Its combination of mediaeval ambience and hi-tech outfitting is ideal for study.

The University has recently been making a name for itself not only as an edu-
cational institute, but also as an organiser of high quality events. With more than 200 performances a year, teachers and students present their work for public appraisal – and many have since become insider tips in the Rostock cultural calendar.
